Erlangen Active Simulator for Interventional Endoscopy (EASIE)
EASIE II
ColoEASIE II

In 1997, the ‘Erlangen Active Simulator for Interventional Endoscopy’ (EASIETM) was created as a cooperation of the Departments of Gastroenterology and Surgery of the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen in Germany by Juergen Hochberger and Martin Neumann. Juergen Hochberger incorporated endoscopic features into the original surgical model of Martin Neumann and developed the CompactEASIETM, a portable version of the EndoTrainer. This model has been modified in 1999, the CompactEASIETM II.  Kai Matthes joined the EASIE team in 1998 and contributed by developing the ColoEASIE prototype, which was presented in 2000. Juergen Maiss, another founding member of the EASIE team, modified this early colonoscopy simulator, resulting into the ColoEASIETM II, the current EASIETM colonoscopy simulator. The NeoPapillaTM has been developed by Jonathan Cohen and Kai Matthes in 2002 for the simulation of interventional ERCP. A chicken heart is connected to the porcine duodenum and serves as an artificial sphincter facilitating selective duct cannulation and sphincterotomy.
